Adopting an animal from the RSPCA

Owning a pet is a huge responsibility. It will change your life and your life will have to change to fit around your pet. Any animal you take into your home and family will rely totally on you for food, shelter, medical care, love, attention and time.

Your pet will need:-

Food
Exercise
Vaccinations
A comfortable place to live and sleep
Grooming
Veterinary attention when they are sick
Boarding costs to be paid if you go away on holiday or for work.
Flea and worming treatment
Time and space to play.
And most important, an endless supply of love and attention

Please bear in mind that many animals come into the care of the RSPCA because they have been ill-treated or neglected. Therefore they may need extra patience and understanding but will reward you with so much in return.

Pet Adoption Information

The RSPCA does not have an animal shelter in the North Bedfordshire area. Our nearest RSPCA animal shelters are listed below. Simply follow the links for directions, contact details and opening times:-

When these shelters are full,(sadly this has been the case throughout 2009) our unwanted animals have to be boarded at private boarding facilities. Please see "For animals looking for a good home".

Cats and kittens - £70 (This now includes neutering, microchipping and initial vaccination)
Rabbit - £25 single rabbit (ideally we want to rehome in pairs)
Rabbits pair - £40 (This includes myxomatosis vaccination and neutering when appropriate)
Dogs and puppies - £100 (This includes initial vaccinations and neutering when appropriate)

Once an animal has been chosen and reserved a pre-home visit is arranged. This is to ensure that the facilities you have to offer are suitable for the type of pet you want to adopt. We also offer advice on financial aspects and the long term commitments made when giving a home to a ‘rescue animal’. This will be followed up with a post adoption visit approx 6 weeks later.
